Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
Classified as a species by Aurivillius (1898, 1906) and by Butler (1898). Classified as a synonym and later as a female form of chilo Godman by Eltringham (1912–1916). Although Grose-Smith described the type specimen of crystallina as a male, Eltringham (1912) states that this is certainly an error. Collins & Bernaud (2021) classify crystallina as a subspecies of chilo for eastern Kenya.
