Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
Eltringham had confused humilis Sharpe with the transparent forms of orestia Hewitson, as had Grose-Smith and Kirby (1901). In his 1912 work, he classified humilis (Sharpe sensu) as the valid name for these transparent forms of orestia. In 1913 he corrected this error by recognising humilis as a distinct species. He then proposed the name carpenteri for the transparent form of orestia, whilst noting that he had named the intermediate forms (with yellow hindwings) transita (1912). Eltringham (1916) again emphasised these synonymies between orestia f. humilis (Eltringham sensu and Grose-Smith and Kirby sensu) and carpenteri and transita. Faced with the continuing confusion, Carcasson (1961) noted that carpenteri had been created to replace the form humilis.
