Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
This taxon is classified as a female form of lycoa Godart by Aurivillius (1898). Eltringham (1912, 1916) classifies butleri as a subspecies of johnstoni Godman. This is confirmed by Carpenter in his detailed study of 1932, whilst specifying that it could be accorded species rank (differences in genitalia, characteristics of the palps). Carcasson and Ackery (1981) classify butleri as a subspecies of johnstoni. Hancock and Health (1988) highlight the synonymy of butleri with toruna Grose-Smith.
