Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
Described as closely related to barberi Trimen. Suffert (1904) classifies astrigera as a species, as well as emini Weymer, without making the connection between the two descriptions. Also classified as a species by Neave (1910) and Strand (1911). Eltringham (1912–1916) classifies this taxon as a subspecies (p. 105, end note) and not as a form of pseudolycia Butler, whilst noting that although very similar in habit to certain forms of zetes Linnaeus, astrigera differs from them in its genitalia. However, Aurivillius (1922) classifies astrigera as the most extreme form of zetes. Carcasson (1961) classifies astrigera as a subspecies of pseudolycia.
