Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
Homonym of acutipennis Schultze. Classified as a valid species by Neave (1910), but subsequently by Eltringham (1912) as the male of guillemei Oberthür. However, it was reclassified as a subspecies of guillemei by Eltringham (1916). Synonymized with guillemei by Riley (1921), who also synonymized diogenes Suffert with guillemei. It should be noted that authors have frequently confused guillemei, diogenes, and nohara Boisduval. Talbot (1932) specifies that acutipennis is distinct from guillemei, and that the female is known as lactea; he concludes that acutipennis and lactea should be treated as synonyms of diogenes. Overlaet (1955) follows this position. A. guillemei remains, moreover, a very rare species in collections. Pierre (1988) confirms the synonymy with guillemei.
